Light Harvest Studio Collaboration Overview

Overview

I’ve had the privilege of working with Light Harvest Studios on a series of projection mapping projects, each unique and challenging in its own way. Our collaborations have allowed me to bring static sculptures and structures to life with AI-driven visuals that create immersive and captivating experiences. Below are some of the key projects we’ve worked on together.

Immortal Lands – 2022

Immortal Lands” was a large-scale public art installation projected at 1 Bush Plaza in San Francisco, spanning over 250 feet. The piece celebrated the California Coast’s rugged beauty, featuring underwater cinematography of submerged dancers interwoven with visuals captured by the Light Harvest Studio team. The installation showcased the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit the liminal space where land and water meet.

My contribution included AI-driven transitions, seamlessly morphing scenes from underwater to coastal shores and then to the inland landscapes. This technique brought dynamic flow to the narrative, emphasizing the gradual shift from ocean depths to the land, enhancing the visual storytelling and capturing the essence of California’s natural environment.  My stuff starts at the 4:23 minute mark.

burning man 2022 & 2023

For Burning Man, I had the honor of projecting AI-driven visuals on the 70-foot PlayAlchemist Pyramid in both 2022 and 2023. The 2022 display featured abstract, trippy animations that utilized sacred geometry and cosmic elements. In 2023, the theme “Animalia” inspired a series of AI-generated animations that brought real and imaginary animals to life. This project involved careful planning and quick execution, as I had just returned from Thailand with only a few weeks to complete the visuals. Despite the challenges, the result was a breathtaking visual experience that captivated the Burning Man community.

Michael Benisty Sculpture

Working with Light Harvest Studios, I also contributed projection mapping visuals for a sculpture by Michael Benisty, renowned for his chrome-like statues. This particular project focused on a poetic theme that explored self-discovery, transformation, and identity. The AI-generated visuals added depth to the reflective surfaces of the sculpture, enhancing the themes expressed through the artwork. The animation patterns flowed in harmony with the contours of the sculpture, making it a truly immersive and multi-layered piece. The sculpture’s muse was Sarah Klauber, who inspired the artistic direction. While the projection mapping of my art didn’t really fully reflect on the chrome here is an example video of what it would of looked like.

Ongoing Projects

I’m currently working on new projection mapping projects with Light Harvest Studios, continuously pushing the boundaries of AI-generated visuals and how they can transform spaces and structures. Our ongoing collaboration seeks to explore new styles and techniques to further elevate visual storytelling through art.

Technologies Used

For my projection mapping projects, I employed Deforum, Stable Diffusion, and AnimateDiff to generate dynamic AI-driven visuals. These tools enabled the creation of AI-generated animations that were precisely integrated into each installation. The approach involved using projection mapping techniques along with visual synchronization to ensure that the visuals matched the flow and mood of the environment. By blending AI-driven visuals with thematic elements and immersive storytelling, I aimed to transform each piece into a captivating and multi-dimensional experience.
